Why it matters
On 22 December 2021 a TuSimple truck drove about 80 miles from Tucson to the Phoenix area at night with no one aboard, which TuSimple called a first for a Class 8 truck on open public roads.
Real-world use
The driverless run used lead and chase vehicles and was part of a pilot with Arizona DOT; US operations were wound down in late 2023.
