Why it matters

With its twin VITA-2 it drove over 1,000 km in heavy Paris-area motorway traffic in October 1994, changing lanes and overtaking after the safety driver approved.

Real-world use

In 1995 it drove Munich to Denmark and back at up to about 175 km/h, autonomous for about 95% of the distance; on display at the Deutsches Museum since 2006.
